Colors.....

I really want to have active kids in our house.  We do lots of body active things everyday but I am trying to get in a few mind activities as well.  I want to feel like I am teaching them something and make it fun.

Tatum is doing science projects the next few weeks at school and I have been looking around for fun things we can do at home that both she and Camdyn can have fun doing.  Yesterday when I found out that Tatum had learned about rainbows at school and she started learning about what colors mixed together will make other colors, I was so excited because I had found an "experiment" online that was about combining colors.

Rainbow drawings from school.
As soon as we got home we got out what we needed and got to work on our "experiment".......
It was supposed to show how when colors mix they make a new color.  Some milk, food coloring and dish soap was all we needed.  We talked about the different colors after we put them in the milk and then talked about what we thought might happen when we put in the soap.  Well, what was supposed to happen didn't happen, the milk just looked like a cool swirl tye dye pan.  I laughed so hard.  I thought maybe the pan was too big and we needed to use a smaller bowl.  So we tried again.  But nope, no new colors, just swirls.  Then finally after some bowl shaking we saw orange.  We were so excited!!  So it was a fail for our first science experiment but at least we had a fun time swirling the colors around!!
Getting the project going.... Tatum saying, "What's going to happen??"
Boo, it didn't work!!
Trying again.....

We saw orange!!!!! Haha.

I thought we could also get some crayons to represent the colors of the rainbow and do the melting crayons with a hair dryer project.  First we unwrapped and glued on our crayons, then out came the hair dryer.  Tatum and I talked about what was going to happen when the hair dryer was blowing hot air on the crayons.  And then what would happen when we stopped and let the crayons cool.  Luckily this "experiment" turned out to be much better and we actually had a fun craft to show for the few minutes of work.

Having fun melting crayons!!

Proud of her artwork.

It was a fun evening of color in our home.  Not sure if the girls learned anything or not, but its always fun to see a smile on their faces when we are doing something new.  I sure do love these smart little learners of mine!!
